Spare Change News - is a nonprofit newspaper that publishes 8,000 copies every other week. Our papers are sold for 25 cents to (primarily) homeless and formerly homeless individuals who then sell the paper for $1 and keep the profit. We are currently running on completely outdated computers that struggle with running every program, and make design (and even web research) into a far lengthier and less reliable process than acceptable for even basic production. Faster computers would allow us to get much more done per day (week, month), as well as possessing the capability to install and run updated Adobe design software.
Seeking G4 or G5 Macs. If you can help, please email Kathy Ferguson or phone 617-497-1595 at the Homeless Empowerment Project

Sacred Earth Network - Here at Sacred Earth Network we focus on creating sustainable culture. We do this through workshops and events that explore the reality of our current global situation while looking for sustainable solutions from both indigenous cultures and modern advancements. We introduce the concept of simple living to those in a fast paced world, and we support indigenous cultures through grants and programming to support those who are already living lightly on the land. We are a small nonprofit with 4 part time staff. Currently we are short one Mac and have to schedule around one another as a result. Having enough computers for our staff would bring cohesion for our staff and our work! Thank you for considering us!

The Boston Healing Landscape Project is a non-profit, educational group operating in (but not financially supported by) the Dept of Family Medicine at the Boston University School of Medicine. Partially supported by grant funding and volunteer man-power, the BHLP conducts original research and develops cross-cultural training resources, publicly available on our website, for healthcare professionals and other scholars.
BHLPs mission is:
- promote cross-cultural holistic healthcare
- train health professionals to be culturally-competent and compassionate healers
- reduce health disparities, particularly among largely-underserved minority and immigrant communities
- improve communication between physicians and patient communities, thus contributing to fewer medical errors and more cost-effective healthcare.
Most of our research involves identifying and compiling web-based resources. Our project faces real limits to continue or expand this work by having too few working computers. And two of our four computers are nearing death and/or retirement! Ideally, we'd love to expand to 6-10 computers capable of running Win XP. If you can help, please e-mail Justine de Marrais, Program Manager, call 617-414-5465 or fax 617-414-5511
